Everywhere we looked was burning

The most natural force comes from these four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. These four forces merge art and life. Emel Mathlouthi felt it was necessary for her third album Everywhere We Looked Was Burning to return to the source, to that part of the Universe that has been too little considered. It is in nature that Emel found the flame of her struggle as well as the tools to carry it out. Both a theater victim of our downfall and a threatening power, nature and its mythical attributes have inspired this new work, which invites union, reflection, and action. Despite striking differences from her previous works, Everywhere We Looked Was Burning should primarily be understood as a continuation of Ensen (2017). After the revolt of Kelmti Horra and the identity questioning of Ensen, this new album tackles the outside world. The same melancholic and disillusioned gaze turns outward and directly addresses the world through poetry written in English.
