Few will ever equal the musical scope of the great "first lady of song" Ella Fitzgerald. From her early years working with the key figures in big band jazz to her distinctive interpretations of jazz standards, in the late 1960s she began to explore the more popular music that was starting to emerge, adding it to her repertoire and uncannily making it her own as she forcefully did throughout her career. This rare collection re-released on vinyl features her live performances from this period, recorded in 1969 from a series of concerts at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel and produced by the legendary Verve Records founder Norman Granz. Featuring the incomparable Tommy Flanagan on piano with his trio with Ed Thigpen on drums and Frank de la Rosa on bass.
