Inspired by the poem "Transformations" by Thomas Hardy, "ETERNAL BIRTH" is the debut solo album by Eliza Marshall and a powerful work on connection, ancestry, and renewal. The album traces the cycles of life, from conception to death, honoring the natural world as a living archive of our ancestors and exploring the invisible ties that bind past, present, and future generations. Throughout the album, Marshall creates a rich, cinematic soundscape, blending classical music, folk, and world traditions with flutes, whistles, a bansuri, spoken texts, percussion, and electronic sounds. Produced by Graeme Pleeth, an Ivor Novello award winner, the album brings together an international panel of renowned musicians, including Ady Thioune and Ansumana Suso (Senegal/Gambia), Drew Morgan and Dónal Rogers (USA/UK), Johnny Kalsi (UK), and Lena Jonsson (Sweden). Matthew Bannister, Folk On Foot ELIZA MARSHALL is a classically trained flutist and composer, a recipient of numerous awards. Her career spans over twenty years of international collaborations in classical, folk, world, and experimental music. A founding member of the folk supergroup Ranagri, she has toured internationally with Peter Gabriel's New Blood Orchestra, recorded with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Florence & The Machine, First Aid Kit, and The White Stripes, and performed solo pieces on major film soundtracks, including Disney's Mufasa, Prometheus, and Robin Hood. She has appeared on the stages of the Royal Operas in London, Vienna, Hamburg, and Brisbane, collaborated with the BBC Concert Orchestra for BBC Radio 3, and is the artistic director of the acclaimed project Freedom To Roam, described by Songlines as "lovingly crafted and overflowing with movement."
