Ekiti Sound is at the forefront of a new musical dialogue between London and Lagos. His debut album creates new musical circuits, applying soldering points between English soundsystem culture (drum & bass, dub, dubstep, funky house), hip hop, afrobeat and Nigerian popular music. The album brings together successive layers of musical history, boldly rubbed together and overlaid to create a rich sonic collage. Roots play a key role for Leke (aka ChiF), the musician/producer/singer behind the project. The name he chose pays tribute to the Yoruba state in southwestern Nigeria, Ekiti (from which his father is from). The album Abeg No Vex (meaning “don’t take it badly,” in Nigerian slang...) sees the low frequencies of London soundsystems collide with various Nigerian styles that shaped Leke’s childhood, including the music of Fela Kuti, omnipresent at family gatherings since he was eleven. “A stunning syncretism between Chicago house and African polyrhythms...” - TRANSMUSICALES “An ultra-mixed and energetic sound” - Radio NOVA. “With Ekiti Sound, West African bass music comes alive” - FIP. “A rhythm built on sub-bass and programming inspired by traditional drum patterns” - FRANCE INTER.
