Rogues Gospel

Description

In 2018, the Englishman Duke Garwood released the album With Animals with his collaborator Mark Lanegan via Heavenly Recordings. As dark as pitch, this record had the merit of brightening our winter evenings and especially illuminating Garwood's career, a London musician close to the Archie Bronson Outfit. A good guy, then. Since the release of this album, Mark Lanegan has passed away, not due to his past misadventures, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The plague is indeed a theme in this record, as it was recorded by Garwood during the 2020 lockdown with drummer Paul May (already present on the albums from the Heavenly Recordings period). Rogues Gospel departs from the dark atmospheres shaped by the shared path with the late Mark Lanegan. Garwood sets out to conquer his sonic obsessions again, namely those shamanic melodies that had captivated a certain James Nicholls when he was the young head of the Fire Records label.
