"The End Of Comedy" is the first album by Drugdealer, the new project of artist Michaël Collins from Los Angeles, who has already made a name for himself with Run Dmt and Salvia Plath: Drugdealer invites several collaborators on his album such as Ariel Pink and Natalie Mejing (Weyes Blood) and immerses us in a fantastical world inspired by the postmodern theories of philosopher Jean Baudrillard, the landscapes of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns, and his incessant travels. "The End Of Comedy" is an acid and enlightened collection where Michaël Collins skillfully explores the piano ballads of Carole King, the arrangements of Bacharach, the psych folk of Ultimate Spinach and Hendrickson Road House, and even the underground jazz of New York. In his album, Drugdealer favors the entirety of the tracks and features Ariel Pink on "Easy To Forget," Danny James on "My Life," and Natalie Mering (Weyes Blood) on "Suddenly" and the title track, not to mention some of his close friends and members of Regal Degal, Holy Shit!, Mild Hugh Club, Mr. Twin Sister, and the band of Mac DeMarco. These collaborations are the foundations of this album, the tracks flow like a travel narrative in which Michaël Collins goes here and there to meet long-time friends or new acquaintances, taking us along with him on his journey and enchanting us in the process.
