After the release of their shoegaze masterpiece Delaware in 1992 and the complex experiments of their second album National Coma in 1993, the Boston band Drop Nineteens disbanded in 1995. In their five years of existence, they shared the stage with Radiohead, Hole, Blur, and PJ Harvey. When Drop Nineteens ceased to exist, leader Greg Ackell felt satisfied, having closed that chapter of his life. Until now. Hard Light is the astonishing third album from the band, more than 25 years later. Serving as a sequel to Delaware, it is a modern record that stands out for its sound and vision. For this, the rest of the band had to be brought together, as Drop Nineteens is an intrinsically collaborative project. Greg Ackell is the main lyricist, and he works with Zimmerman, Paula Kelley, Motohiro Yasue, and Peter Koeplin to create the sound universe. The reverb on the guitars is still extensive. The vocals of Greg Ackell and Paula Kelley are crystalline. Hard Light is the portrait of a band 30 years later, still as talented and dedicated to their art.
