1991 - Vinyle Gris

Description

Following the release of Hard Light, Drop Nineteens’ first new album in 30 years, and the reissue of their 1992 shoegaze masterpiece Delaware, Wharf Cat Records is excited to announce the official release of 1991. This album features the band's first two demos, which were sent out on cassette to labels in 1991 and found their way into the British music press, generating immediate buzz and a scramble to sign the band. After signing with Caroline Records, Drop Nineteens decided to write a whole new album, Delaware, for their official debut release, leaving the songs on 1991 behind, frozen in time. Waves of layered guitars and buried vocal harmonies adorn these tracks, showcasing Drop Nineteens when comparisons to their British contemporaries such as Slowdive and Ride were apt. The songs on 1991, recorded with lo-fi charm, show an ambitious young band capable of writing texturally rich songs full of hooks, on the verge of their breakthrough. For fans of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Cocteau Twins, Swirlies.
