The Unraveling reveals the journey of Drive-By Truckers, from post-election blues in the heart of Memphis to 2020, a new election year in the United States. The Unraveling, "the unraveling," was largely inspired by the political situation in the United States, and arrives just in time for the upcoming American elections. It was recorded at the legendary Sam Phillips Recording Service studios in Memphis, under the guidance of producers Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price) and David Barbe, a long-time collaborator of the band. The new album The Unraveling features some prestigious guests: Patti King from the Shins, violinist Kyleen King (Brandi Carlile), and Cody Dickinson from the North Mississippi All-Stars, who plays electric washboard on the track "Babies In Cages."
