Garage rock pumped full of testosterone. The two British brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless are one of those duos you remember, in the vein of Whites Stripes or Black Keys. DRENGE came together between 2010 and 2011 and was already planning to make some noise on the garage rock scene, as their self-titled debut album can attest. Today, they release Undertow on Infectious Music (alt-J, These New Puritans...), a concentrate of testosterone that makes the guitar roar over a sharp drumbeat. The first single from their new album, “We Can Do What We Want,” is a sure-fire hit, recalling the punk energy of the 80s. Undertow was written and recorded during their latest tour, between the United States and their hometown near Manchester. Produced by the renowned Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.IA., The Kills), the band has, for the first time, brought a third person into the project by calling on Rob Graham to play bass on three tracks as well as accompany them on stage. Precise and bold, Undertow manages to take us back to the best years of Garage Rock while making the sounds of today its own.
