A product of the melting pot that is not so underground and blends genres is Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). Producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Don Glori (AKA Gordon Li) is preparing to release his next album. Following the release of his highly anticipated LP 'Welcome' in 2022 and his move to London, Don has managed to tap into a powerful creative current, placing himself in a state of discomfort and bringing his creativity back to the essentials for 'Don'. Don't forget to have fun. This invigorating approach has allowed the initial sketches of the album to be distilled into a compelling and intoxicating listening experience throughout the record, creating a true work of art that traverses jazz, funk, soul, RnB, samba, and beyond. While the record itself is difficult to describe, it is even harder to forget. The album opener, "Pause," combines psychedelic influences with a cyclical groove and focuses on recognizing a safe space that can serve as a refuge. Drawing inspiration from Steely Dan, Brian Bennett, and Azymuth, it channels jazz rock, the energy of 70s Los Angeles studios, with faster funk sections featuring an unruly amount of percussion, synth lead lines, and vocal melodies that weave in and around the tight sound.
