Sacrifice

Description

In a few words, Doctor Bionic can be described as instrumental psych-hop from a B-movie. But that's not all. Doctor Bionic is the work of Jason Grimes, originally from Cincinnati, a former producer for the hip-hop group MOOD (with MCs Main Flow and Donte). Growing up in the Scribble Jam scene and mingling with artists like Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli, Grimes' music has continued to evolve, moving from sample-based loops to live instrumentation with deep overlays, all provided by various local musicians. The common thread in most of Doctor Bionic's tracks is the drum breaks, but the tempo adjustments and varied instrumentation lend themselves to a collection of songs that are not genre-specific – held together by the impeccable drumming, often provided by Josiah Wolf (from the indie-rock band Why?). The result of these recording sessions is a masterclass in musical juxtaposition. Spacious yet dense. A futuristic nostalgia. Ideal for long car rides or setting the mood for a relaxed evening with friends. For fans of El Michels Affair, Adrian Younge, Roy Ayers, Karriem Riggins, The Roots, Khruangbin.
