Born in 1970 in Germany, pianist Dirk Maassen is a lover of the Ocean whose pieces, listened to millions of times on streaming platforms, have propelled him to the forefront of a new wave of neo-classical artists. The North Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Atlantic Ocean—it's no coincidence that he named his first album with Sony Classical Ocean: he pays tribute to this natural element that is so essential to life. Sometimes agitated, sometimes calm and fragile, Maassen's compositions on Ocean have a cinematic density that transforms the sea into music, captivating and dramatic, playing with the tides and currents of this world. Sometimes accompanied by an orchestra or the violin of Norwegian musician Eldbjørg Hemsing, the album was produced by Francesco Donadello, who previously worked with Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Dustin O’Halloran.
