Dion Francis DiMucci, better known as Dion, is an American singer and songwriter whose music blends doo-wop, pop, rock, R&B, folk, and blues. First the singer of the vocal group Dion and The Belmonts, he then launched a solo career and became one of the most important figures in rock 'n' roll before the British Invasion. He accumulated 39 Top 40 hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s, solo or with The Belmonts and The Del-Satins. In late 1962, Dion signed with Columbia Records. He was the first rock 'n' roll artist to sign with this label. His first single on Columbia, "Ruby Baby" by Leiber and Stoller, reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while "Donna the Prima Donna" and "Drip Drop" charted at number 6 in late 1963. These tracks all appear on this compilation. A Grammy Award-nominated artist, Dion has released over 40 albums. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
