I Bet on Sky, released in 2012, is Dinosaur Jr.’s third album since the original trio—J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph—reformed in 2005. And, incredibly, it’s the band’s tenth studio album since their debut on Homestead Records in 1985. The trio took all they learned from the various projects they’ve tackled over the years, and poured it right into their current mix. J.’s guitar here verges on his most disordered playing, yet there's a sense of instrumental control that matches the mellow darkness of his vocals. Lou’s bass is also more melodic.
