Advanced Myth is the reissue of Dialect's sparkling debut album, the project of British composer and musician Andrew PM Hunt, originally released in 2015. An enchanted exploration of the synthesis of unusual sources, electroacoustic arrangements, and found sounds, Advanced Myth is its own expanding cosmos. Although it is largely a meditative album, it oscillates between moments of shimmering clarity and tides of corrosive noise. Take, for example, the improvisation session on the zither, parts of which appear in the almost folk-like tracks "Hung Rose" and "Unanswered Prayers." On the former, this chime-like instrument unleashes itself only to be overwhelmed by a discordant whistle, the sound of traffic, and the electrifying atmosphere of a sporting event. On the latter, however, its delicacy and balance are enhanced by the addition of strings and a clarinet. Advanced Myth is a reel of both thoughtful and reactive compositions. In truth, the record should be received as a whole. The tracks, as they are, neither begin nor end, but rather blend into one another, supporting or refuting each other, gently leading the mood into shadow. It is a record from which one can draw sonic lines to everything Dialect has done since, but it is also an album that stands on its own and, through its relative tranquility, does not mask the sense of excitement of an artist standing on the brink of new creative frontiers.
