Recorded in Copenhagen just a few weeks after Dexter Gordon's ambitious orchestral project, SCCD 31030 More Than You Know, this session returns to the essentials: a no-frills improvisation session where Gordon's imagination, mastery, and melodic spirit shine brightly. Accompanied by Horace Parlan, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and Tony Inzalaco, Gordon revisits standards such as Just Friends, Misty, Red Cross, and So What with a blend of relaxed confidence and flamboyant inventiveness. His soprano interpretation of In a Sentimental Mood adds a rare and introspective touch. Remastered from the original tapes, this edition highlights the clarity, swing, and interaction of the quartet – an essential testament to Gordon's Danish years in Copenhagen and a definitive affirmation of his timeless mastery.
