The band’s name comes from Hermann Hesse’s novel Demian, and the group draws its inspiration from various movements such as Alternative Rock and Post-Rock, and says it is influenced by a wide range of artists from Nick Drake to Jimi Hendrix, including Radiohead and Neil Young. Musically very different from its predecessor, the album once again receives an excellent critical reception and allows the band to reach a wider audience this time. As Demians had until then been a trio, guitarist Fred Mariolle joined the band after the release of "Mute" as guitarist. The band announced on its Facebook page in March 2013 that it had been on an indefinite hiatus since 2011, and that no new album was in preparation. It was only in spring 2014 that Nicolas Chapel announced on the band’s page that he was preparing a new album that he wanted to release entirely independently.
