When she hears or composes music, “electronic musician” DeLaurentis spontaneously visualizes shapes and colors. This phenomenon, called synesthesia, is the main theme of her new album Musicalism, a name echoing the 1930s art movement in which painters saw colors as sound vibrations. Like an Alice in Machine Land exploring new sounds with cutting-edge digital instruments, DeLaurentis plunges us into the heart of an immersive work composed in spatialized sound and mixed in Dolby Atmos at Radio France. We are carried away into the imagination of the producer of “White Opening,” the introductory blank canvas, all the way to the final track, “Musicalism,” a multirhythmic explosion that does justice to all the colors of the rainbow. The album also includes “The Wooden House” featuring Swedish artist Jay-Jay Johanson and “Golden Kids,” written and performed with the Japanese duo Osteoleuco.
