The CD edition of SPLAT! by Deep Purple includes 13 new tracks. It comes in a raw cardboard case (inside-out) with embossed finishes, selective varnish, sanded varnish, and a 20-page booklet. Deep Purple is back with their new studio album, SPLAT!. Rather than simply preserving their legacy, the members of Deep Purple continue to expand it, driven by the same spirit as in their early days. With SPLAT!, the band delivers their heaviest album in many years, recorded all together in the studio, true to the group's historic method. Once again produced by Bob Ezrin, the album draws on the sound and attitude that have always set Deep Purple apart. At the heart of SPLAT! lies an idea conceived by Ian Gillan: the album explores the end of humanity, not in a raw apocalyptic sense, but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence. Frontman Ian Gillan states: "The stage we are at today with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a very current version of what the band was in the 70s."
