Welcome to Long Beach 1971, a new chapter in the reissues of Deep Purple’s legendary live recordings, after Stockholm 1970, Paris 1975 or even Graz 1975. The release of this live album, recorded at the Long Beach Arena in California on July 30, 1971, had been eagerly awaited for a long time by the band and fans, as it features two tracks from the album In Rock (“Speed King” and “Child In Time”), released in 1970, this album being essential for the band’s MKII lineup as it was a huge commercial success. To complete the set that day, Deep Purple performed a considerably extended version of “Mandrake Root”, a song taken from their first album, as well as “Strange Kind Of Woman”, the B-side of the single “Black Night”.
