Death and Vanilla, the trio formed by Marleen Nilsson, Anders Hansson, and Magnus Bodin, returns with a new album, "Flicker," to showcase their unique pop. Despite the crises, Death And Vanilla is reborn, revitalized by incorporating reggae dub influences, motorik spirals reminiscent of Can, the modal meanderings of Philip Glass, and the dreamier pop sounds of The Cure. Additionally, there’s a symphonic ambiance akin to bands like Spiritualized or Talking Heads under the guidance of Brian Eno in the late 70s. "Looking Glass," the second single, opens with a deceptively slow introduction. It’s an organic piece that quickly becomes modal, layered with multiple textures beneath which lies Marleen Nilsson's evocative voice. Like a fevered dream of Fleetwood Mac, it immerses itself in a subconscious atmosphere with succulent melodies. In contrast, "Out For Magic," the hypnotic opening track, is a playful piece with jazz guitar that alternates between counterbalancing and supporting the main melody. Death And Vanilla gives the impression that everything is possible and at the same time, nothing. The album radiates a glimmer of hope for everyone.
