Bazan built a solid reputation as a songwriter and iconic figure of the indie band Pedro the Lion. At the time he was releasing music under his own name via Barsuk, his exceptional melodic sense and erudite songs, with deep theological themes, began to openly reflect his own crisis of faith, stemming from his upbringing in the evangelical Christian movement.
