In the spring of 1954, the great jazzman Dave Brubeck toured North American university campuses. Paul Desmond (alto saxophone), Bob Bates (bass), and Joe Dodge (drums) joined him and supported Brubeck, ultimately producing what many consider to be the most memorable music in the artist's canon. Indeed, the genre evolves as the quartet approaches it with striking energy and finesse. Appreciated by students in the 1950s and early 1960s, the tour and the album introduced jazz to a whole new generation.
