My American Story : North

With his new project, Daniil Trifonov embarks on a very personal musical journey through the continents of America. The first of a series of two albums, "My American Story - North", begins in the United States. Trifonov has spent more than half of his life there.
Eclectic, the repertoire of the album "has given me access to many perspectives, styles, cultures, places, people, stories, and forms of expression that have shaped and marked my experience of America," explains Trifonov. The selected works range from jazz and swing to minimal music and film music. Two piano concertos form the framework of the album: the famous concerto in F by Gershwin as well as a concerto composed especially for Trifonov by Mason Bates, in world premiere.
Both are accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The solo piano pieces include, in addition to works by John Adams, Aaron Copland, John Corigliano, and Dave Grusin, Trifonov's own transcription of jazz classics such as "I Cover the Waterfront" by Art Tatum, Bill Evans' version of "When I Fall in Love," pieces from the Hollywood classics La Fime and American Beauty, as well as the legendary "4'33" by John Cage.
