The Danish drummer Daniel Sommer is proud to present the second part of his critically acclaimed Nordic trilogy, a project aimed at capturing and documenting Nordic improvisation and composition through three carefully selected ensembles. With Swedish bassist Johannes Lundberg and Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, "Sounds & Sequences" will be released on September 19, 2025. Following "As Time Passes" with Sommer alongside British guitarist Rob Luft and ECM Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen, the project develops as Sommer says, "not to try to make the same kind of music three times in a row, but rather to highlight today's Nordic improvisation from different angles and perspectives." Drawing inspiration from chamber music, spiritual jazz, electronic music, and ambient sounds, the trio has repeatedly gone to Studio Epidemin in Gothenburg, recording without specific goals or guidelines. Faced with a large volume of recordings, the group then focused on compiling its free improvisations into a coherent project, combining form, narrative, and staging.
