Description

Daniel Maunick, known for producing many tracks by Azymuth and Marcos Valle, is back after a first album supported notably by Moodymann, Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Ron Trent, Palms Trax and Derrick Carter. As on his previous Far Out releases (the most recent being the EP Musica Encantada), Persistence sees Maunick continuing to playfully use the foundations of traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms, heard in the sultry swing of the samba on "Arraiá", in the pulsating batucada enveloping the synthetic bass stabs of "Remnants of Joy", and in the spectral cuicas of "Illusions". But beyond these characteristic nods to Brazil, he reflects on his junglist roots with the deeply moving "Love Is Gone", and flexes his deep house muscles with the magic of "Just Deserts" and "Addicted".
