Bachman has a dedicated fan base that is closely focused on his upcoming steps. Although he has always been restless with his art, his stylistic changes in "Axacan" from 2020 demonstrated - and excited - many members of this fan base about how transformative his work and vision can be for "traditional" music in these modern times. This new work continued with "Almanac Behind" in 2022. "When The Roses Come Again" is a perfect milestone in this trend, a synthesis of tradition and abstraction. In other words, it is another vibrant reinvention of what a "traditional" album can be in the modern era. On this album, Bachman uses acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, and jaw harp, as well as oscillators, drum apps, and more to build string-based one-man-band compositions. By integrating technology as a collage tool, along with acoustic instruments that have all preceded us, Bachman enthusiastically creates an album that has as much to do with Terry Riley, Laraaji, Eno's ambient albums from the late 70s, and 75 Dollar Bill, as it does with the Carter Family, Stanley Brothers, and Hobart Smith. "When The Roses Come Again" is meant to delight those who have been so in love with Bachman's exciting past turns, as well as to attract new people who are excited about new sounds.
