Description

The new album by Damon Locks & Black Monument Ensemble, "NOW", was created in the final moments of summer 2020, after months of fear and isolation induced by the pandemic, the explosion of social unrest, struggle, and violence in the streets, and as the certain presence of a new reality had fully settled in.
Safely set up in the garden behind the Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago, the music was recorded in just a few takes, capturing the first times the members of the BME played or sang the tunes.
For Locks, it was more about coming together to commune and make art than to produce an album. In his own words: "It was about offering new thought. It was about resisting darkness. It was about expressing possibilities. It was about asking the question: 'Since the future has unfolded and taken on a new and dangerous form... what happens NOW?'"
