Building on his large-scale reinterpretations of John Coltrane classics, Christophe Dal Sasso takes on Chick Corea's "Three Quartets" (1981). Under the expert direction of the arranger, his big band (Victoires du Jazz in 2020) revisits the pianist's legendary album, with three exceptional saxophonists on the front line, in the role held by Michael Brecker: David El-Malek, Stéphane Guillaume, and Rick Margitza (who recorded with Chick Corea at the start of his career). Also on the program are two compositions recorded by Corea during the same sessions as "Three Quartets" but left unreleased until the album's reissue in 1992, "Folk Song" and "Slippery When Wet." A monumental record, by an all-star big band, as a living and spectacular tribute to the great pianist who passed away in 2021.
