Dadawah, the drummer-singer of Ras Michael, a fervent Rastafarian musician, brought together the latter with seasoned studio musicians: bassist Lloyd Parks, drummer Paul Williams, guitarist Willie Lindo, and pianist/organist Lloyd Charmers, who also produced the album. The resulting album, Peace & Love, is nothing but a work of faith. Although it is not a concept album in the strictest sense, it thematically evokes the biblical last days. "Run Come Rally" gathers the righteous from around the world in preparation for the imminent battle against evil. After bringing together the brothers of the "Seventy-Two Nations," they all bow before Jah to celebrate his greatness, then express their desire to return to the "Land of Zion." The album concludes with the call for freedom of "Know How You Stand," and with it the possibility of fulfilling Jah's plan. The extraordinary power of the themes addressed is magnified by equally exceptional arrangements, creating one of the most enchanting atmospheres. While the hand percussion gives the album a grounding sound, Parks and Williams simultaneously anchor the tracks in deeply rooted foundations. Curiously, there is no reggae guitar, only the sublime riffs and solos of Lindo, flirting with rock while constantly returning to the blues. Charmers' piano and organ sometimes take over the reggae guitar, but more often, his instruments intertwine around Lindo's solos, enhancing the melodies, adding elegant flourishes here and there, and subtly contributing to the atmosphere. Charmers' production is superb, the musicians inspired, and Ras Michael's power undeniable. A stunning album that has lost none of its strength over the years.
