Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, David Charles Shuford is the soul of Speer. After moving to New York in the early 90s, Shuford built a solid reputation as a musician, mastering multiple sounds and styles. A member of the No Neck Blues Band for 15 years, he has also invested his mind and fingers in other groups such as Enos Slaughter, The Suntanama, Egypt Is The Magick # and Coach Fingers. Thanks to a steady series of home recordings, Speer’s career began to take shape in the early 2000s. The assembling of masses of vibrating wood was necessary to fulfill the obligations of a one-man band. The full instrumental lineup of an oriental dance troupe and a selection of voices from a Cajun group were thus fused to create an incredibly lively sound. After a first self-produced solo album, 'Some Forgotten Country', in 2007, Speer then sought an outlet to perform live with the country’s hottest band, The Helix. His second solo LP 'Arghiledes' returns to acoustic instrumentation, with a still healthy dose of electric effects and speaker fuzz.
