CYMANDE'S LEGENDARY "PROMISED HEIGHTS" REISSUED ON PINK VINYL!This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cymande's album "Promised Heights", which concluded a historic run of three early 70s afro-soul albums, also including their 1972 self-titled debut and 1973's "Second Time Around."“Promised Heights” cemented Cymande’s place in music history and contains some of their most loved and sampled tracks, such as "Brothers On The Slide."Children of the Windrush generation, Cymande were part of the first wave of innovators and initiators of the nascent black British music scene. Drawing on their Guyanese and Jamaican roots, the band fused reggae basslines, afro-tinged nyabinghi percussion, touches of psychedelic rock, and American-style funk instrumentation to create a unique sound they dubbed "Nyah-rock."“Promised Heights” was recorded after the band’s US tour with Al Green, which firmly embedded Cymande in the ears of an adoring American audience. Cymande were also the first British band to play Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater.
