Curip Curip was born from a happy accident. Two artists, Luiza Monteiro, a singer and actress born in Rio and based in Austria, and Dustin Braun, a German producer, were each at a turning point in their careers. A chance meeting quickly gave birth to an exhilarating and sincere Brazilian MPB project, influenced by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. In their own words, Curio Curio's sound vision "is neither pure disco nor pure samba, strictly old-school, but draws inspiration from all these genres, thus creating a work that is both contemporary and nostalgic." A modern fusion influenced as much by Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor as by Say She She and Bala Desejo, their sound skillfully carves its own path. A celebration of freedom, movement, love, and life, punctuated by moments of introspection. Considering tradition as a living, moving, and constantly evolving force, the album is not only driven by a shared love of Brazilian music but by a deeper question that runs through each track. A Brazilian based in Europe, Luiza explores in her lyrics the themes of identity, culture, and existence. Her songs navigate between cities and emotional registers without ever settling, tracing an identity in perpetual evolution. Braun's production follows a similar logic. The initial ideas were often built without obvious reference points, then integrating rhythmic and vocal elements evoking Brazil without reproducing it. Analog techniques, magnetic tapes, ribbon microphones, and live recording of an ensemble give a tactile dimension that reflects the duo's interest in the process as much as in the result. A first album that is both introspective and assertive, rooted in a cultural heritage and shaped by distance.
