Camgirl is an album by Crippling Alcoholism, hailing from Boston. The record explores the intertwining of pleasure, shame, and survival, without attempting to separate desire and suffering. Its music combines catchy melodies with abrasive textures reminiscent of noise rock. The songs thus blend pop accessibility with dark or provocative themes. Released on September 12, 2025, the album follows a narrative centered on a sex worker facing cycles of exploitation and survival. The tracks oscillate between desire, despair, confession, and staging. Despite its dark subject matter, the album avoids nihilism and concludes with a form of victory through perseverance. Initially released on vinyl by Portrayal of Guilt Records, the first pressing quickly sold out. A reissue by The Flenser later made the album more widely available. Camgirl is now regarded as the group's most significant work, at the crossroads of pop, noise, and post-punk, in the vein of artists like Chat Pile, Model/Actriz, Have a Nice Life, or Swans.
