COUPE COLONEL (vinyl)

Description

After two notable EPs, Coupe Colonel releases its first album, 10 tracks sung in French with the disillusioned взгляд of Erwan, also known as Mr Roux. A blend of influences as diverse as they are varied, from African funk to disco pop, from the 70s to the 90s, makes their impeccably groovy music a true UFO in the French indie music landscape. The lyrics, as funny as they are depressing, cynical, recounting the absurdity of life and social conventions, are wrapped in excessively danceable, even joyful music. An unusual contrast, but one that works wonderfully and is not unlike what Pierre Vassiliu did, bringing world music into lyrics that, under the guise of absurd humor, recounted a darker reality. Coupe Colonel is a Rennes-Saint-Malo band made up of musicians coming more from rock, brought together to make the words groove for a singer coming more from quality French chanson (Monsieur Roux). Inspired as much by 70s Beninese orchestras and 80s Californian funk as by Richard Gotainer or Pierre Vassiliu, the band has only one goal: to make the audience dance like crazy to depressing lyrics filled with dark humor.
