When Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw decided to strike out on their own after the dissolution of their indie-folk band Page France, they continued to write songs as part of a new project called Cotton Jones Basket Ride. According to legend, Michael and Whitney were working on their first album Paranoid Cocoon (2009) when they realized they had an entire album from various recording sessions. The resulting album, The River Strumming, was released in 2008 on the St. Ives label. The River Strumming showcases a band exploring possibilities without worrying about the weight of expectations. The band would eventually shorten their name to Cotton Jones and make a name for themselves in the indie world for their blend of dreamy folk and psychedelic baroque pop. This 180-gram vinyl reissue marks the 15th anniversary of this long-out-of-print classic, featuring new artwork by Kayleigh Montgomery-Morris.
