For all those who love and admire Sacha Guitry, this event of gathering in a beautiful 2 CD album a selection of his phonographic work is one of the happy privileges of our time, where technical advances allow us to resurrect, while improving, treasures that were at great risk of sinking into oblivion. This endeavor is all the more commendable and audacious as it required a lot of determination to gather nearly unattainable documents that span from the twenties, when Sacha reigned over Paris, to "Si Versailles m'était conté." When he received the honors of the Republic, but to which he preferred the testimonies of recognition, admiration, and loyalty from the public, the only one that mattered to him, and which expresses feelings never denied for half a century. This man, often labeled as selfish by those who knew him poorly, was in reality a passionate being, full of love and wonder for Artists in general, and for all those he considered his Masters. It is enough to listen to him evoke Jules Renard, Alphonse Allais, or Tristan Bernard to understand that he was a lover of beauty, spirit, France, and its Great Men. Let us listen to him tirelessly play with his voice in the manner of a cello with the virtuosity of a Pablo Casals or a Rostropovich, and we will be convinced that he remains the incomparable, the unmatched Sacha.
