Hommage à Eberhard Weber

In January 2015, several musicians gathered at the Theaterhaus in Stuttgart for two consecutive evenings to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Eberhard Weber. At the center of the concerts was a 30-minute suite that was commissioned from Pat Metheny, with whom Weber had played and recorded in the 70s. With Metheny on guitar, the SWR Big Band conducted by Helge Sund, Gary Burton on vibraphone, Scott Colley on bass, and Danny Gottlieb on drums, the composition titled Hommage is a suite of arrangements of solos recorded by Weber. Among the performers who took the stage on those two evenings to honor Weber's vast work were his long-time companions, such as Jan Garbarek, Paul McCandles, Manfred Schoof, and arranger Michael Gibbs, eliciting enthusiastic ovations from the packed audience. A truly historic event.
