Hommage à Eberhard Weber

In January 2015, several musicians gathered at the Theaterhaus in Stuttgart for two consecutive evenings to celebrate Eberhard Weber’s 75th birthday. At the center of the concerts was a 30-minute suite specially commissioned from Pat Metheny, with whom Weber had played and recorded in the 1970s. With Metheny on guitar, the SWR Big Band led by Helge Sund, Gary Burton on vibraphone, Scott Colley on bass and Danny Gottlieb on drums, the composition titled Hommage is a suite of arrangements of solos recorded by Weber. Among the performers who appeared on those two evenings to pay tribute to Weber’s vast body of work were his longtime companions, such as Jan Garbarek, Paul McCandles, Manfred Schoof and arranger Michael Gibbs, sparking enthusiastic ovations in the packed hall. A truly historic event.
