All This I Do For Glory

Description

This record is a reasoning and an exploration of the machinations of ambition and legacy, an examination of the concepts of the beyond and the first half of a doomed love story modeled after Greek tragedies. As a narrative, it exists temporally somewhere between "Never was the way she was" from 2015 (with Sarah Neufeld) and the first volume of the NHW trilogy. His first solo release since "To See More Light" in 2013, Colin Stetson ventures into territory that is both familiar and strange. Here again, we find the dogmatically stripped-down approach to performance and capture (all songs recorded live without overdubs or loops), but there is an immediacy in the album that belies a more invasive and in-depth recording of the various instruments used and an apparent influence drawn from early 90s electro artists like Aphex Twin and Autechre, evident in the sharper role played by the numerous percussive elements of the instruments. • 4th pressing on vinyl, this time on Transparent Petrol. • All This I Do For Glory was critically acclaimed upon its release in 2017, and Colin toured worldwide. • Colin Stetson has composed soundtracks for Hereditary, The Menu, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The First, and many others. • "When we was that what wepted from the sea" won the 2024 Juno Award for Best Instrumental Album.
