Musick To Play In The Dark Volume 1 - Vinyle Violet Nuageux
Description
Few groups in recent history have forged a musical corpus as bewildering and alchemical as Coil, the partnership between Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson and John Balance. From album to album and phase by phase, their recordings have transcended the disconcerting depths of esoteric industrial, occult electronics, and drugged poetry, embodying and alienating the parallel currents of their peers. The late 1990s in particular was a fertile era for the duo, embracing chance, chaos, and collaboration, bolstered by recent advances in synthesis and sampling. Their divergent strains of interstitial rituals crystallized in Musick To Play In The Dark, one of Coil's most famous and hallucinatory creations. Although the creative process was certainly iterative and somewhat blurred by drugs, the results are surprisingly inventive and well-crafted, winding through shades of lugubrious divinatory chants, krautrock black holes, sinister humor, and oppressive downtempo through the cryptic lunar muse of John Balance. Even in a discography as eclectic as Coil's, Musick To Play In The Dark is a mystifying collection, dreamlike evocations of desire and decadence, well beyond the gothic industrial ambiguity that gave rise to such a journey. The album has been fully remastered by engineer Josh Bonati with restored artwork and layout by Nathaniel Young - all under the supervision of Drew McDowall and Thighpaulsandra. Pressed on double vinyl in purple, blue, and white.
