à Saint-Germain-Des-Prés

Description

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Claude Luter's passing, his most beautiful collaborations with Sidney Bechet and Barney Bigard. Claude Luter left us in 2006. With his band, Claude Luter embodied French jazz and the spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the fifties. As a joyful response to the painful years of war, Claude was the herald of his generation, a syncopated herald of the New Orleans style to which he remained attached all his life. This style demands human qualities as much as musical ones, as the collective is inscribed in the very structure of this music. With Claude, it was never "Me and my orchestra," but an ensemble where each musician found their place for the success of a shared journey. This program brings together pieces borrowed from three mythical albums: his famous duo with Sidney Bechet; his recording with Barney Bigard - an impressive musical duel between two clarinetists; and finally his album recorded in 1957 at the Odéon Studio in Buenos Aires.
