Hybridization between jazz and classical music, the "crossover" is a genre in its own right in the history of 20th-century music. At the origin of "jazz fusion," its high point is situated in the 1970s, notably with the release of the album "Suite for flute" by Claude Bolling and Jean-Pierre Rampal (FA443), which remained 10 years on the American Billboard. This anthology created by Jean-Baptiste Mersiol revisits the experiments of the pioneers and great figures of crossover: Jacques Loussier, André Hodeir, André Prévin, and Claude Bolling, who, as early as the late 1950s, were the first to have built a bridge between European written music and American improvised jazz.
