On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Philippe de Broca's cult film 'Le Magnifique,' Sugarmusic presents the first complete vinyl edition of the original soundtrack composed by Claude Bolling. 'Le Magnifique,' starring Jean-Paul Belmondo in a dual role, is a hilarious comedy about the relationship between François Merlin, an author of cheap spy novels, and his hero, secret agent Bob Saint-Clar, who is swept up in a whirlwind of extravagances. Musically, 'Le Magnifique' marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between de Broca and the great Claude Bolling, a jazz and film musician, fresh from the success of 'Borsalino.' A score ranging from mariachis and bursts of romanticism to wild boleros and James Bond-esque nods: the lush music of 'Le Magnifique' established Claude Bolling as France's answer to Henry Mancini. As the film undergoes 4K restoration, this first complete vinyl edition of this magnificent score combines, in a double LP format, the original 1973 album with previously unreleased tracks and alternate takes from the Sugarmusic archives. It is available with two distinct cover designs, one paying homage to the visuals of the Bob Saint-Clar novels.
