Upon its release, Too Much in Love to Care received several rave reviews, with Jazz Times comparing Martin's vocal talent to those of Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Horn, two of her idols. Too Much in Love to Care features classic romantic songs and beautiful ballads from the great American songbook, including Embraceable You and How Long Has This Been Going On? by Gershwin, as well as the title song from Sunset Boulevard.
Too Much in Love to Care was recorded in New York with Kenny Barron as a guest star, "one of the best jazz pianists in the world" (LA Times), alongside bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington. The chemistry was immediate, and many songs were recorded in a single take, which is all the more remarkable as Claire and Kenny were playing together for the first time.
