CHAGRIN BLEU (vinyl)

Description

Brother and sister, Citron Citron proves to be the new revelation of the Geneva alternative scene! Chagrin Bleu explores nocturnal melancholy and the joy of a soaring flight under the sun. Songs with transcendent choruses, and synthetic laments with romantic melodies, carried by rhythms with a groovebox feel. An album on the borders of chamber pop, medieval chants and ambient. The lyrics are sometimes poetic, angry or dreamy. The first sketches of the album were drawn up during the first lockdown, as time slowed down. The songs were then recorded DIY by the band in their studio in Geneva during 2021. The first sessions were recorded on cassette with a Tascam 688, then expanded and retouched on computer. Some additional recordings were made with the help of sound engineer Yavor Lilov (L'Éclair). The album also features guests. On one hand, musician Fhunyue Gao, who recorded her theremin on the tracks Perdu and Complainte des Tisserandes, both recorded live. She brought her cosmic and organic touch to the songs. On the other hand, Sébastien Bui (L'Éclair) expanded the arrangement of the track Silence Violence with layers of synthesizers that are as soaring as they are groovy. The album was then worked on and mixed with Jacco Gardner in his studio in Antwerp. His analog universe allowed the album’s sound to gain breadth and depth. With its echoes and tape machines, the mixing could be approached in an organic and evolving way.
