Songs like the opener "Headtrip" and the first single "If You're Lonely" are filled with energy thanks to producer Rob Schnapf. Like their album Life In Your Glass World released in 2021, there is a clear influence of the New York garage rock revival on songs like "Hyper Trophy" and the groovy "Can't Take It Slow." But Citizen never lets a single mood settle for too long on Calling the Dogs; the album features moments of pop happiness, punk aggression, and the melancholy characteristic of Citizen.
