X's

Description

Cigarettes After Sex reinvents the musical landscape with X's, a brutal and magical album that establishes the band as a contemporary legend. With X's, Cigarettes After Sex finally takes center stage, not only as one of the best current indie bands, but also as one of the most accomplished bands worldwide, across all genres, whose often unconventional path to fame has helped redefine the very meaning of success for artists of the modern era. Filled with raw, vivid, sometimes explicit scenes, accompanied by mesmerizing slow-burn pop songs, songwriter Greg Gonzalez captures every emotion that a romantic episode can inspire. But while previous albums drew from a mix of relationships, X's focuses largely on a single relationship, spanning four years. “The album is brutal,” Gonzalez admits. “I could sit down and talk about this breakup with a friend, but that wouldn’t be enough. I need to write, to sing, to make music, and then I can start to analyze and draw lessons from it. Or simply relive it — in the good sense of the term. I don’t have that ‘Eternal Sunshine’ side of wanting to forget.” A magical third album that marks Cigarettes After Sex’s return to the top.
