This reissue includes the magnificent debut album by Chuck Berry, "After School Session", originally released in May 1957 by Chess Records. It is one of the all-time cornerstones of rock & roll, and a truly representative sample of Berry at his peak. "After School Session" was only the second album on Chess Records. Berry’s LP title was meant to attract a teenage audience in the most innocent terms but also subtly invoked a more daring extracurricular activity in its blues and ballads. While it was the teen-focused hit singles that paid the bills and made Chuck Berry a gold mine, it was these less-heard tracks (such as "Drifting Heart", "Together We Will Always Be" and "Havana Moon") that revealed his adventurous side and his willingness to push musical boundaries. In addition to the original masterpiece, this collector’s edition also includes 4 bonus tracks from the same period, including great hits such as "Rock & Roll Music", "30 days (To Come Back Home)", the unforgettable "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Maybellene", which reached No. 1 on the U.S. R&B charts in 1955. All these original gems - which have been brilliantly remastered to achieve the most pristine sound - are simple two-and-a-half-minute songs that convey all the power and emotion of rock and roll. Without these recordings, there would be no Beatles, Rolling Stones or Kinks, at least in the forms they eventually took.
