The Land We Knew The Best/Limited Crystal Clear Vinyl
Description
Chris Eckman's albums are always a treat. Just looking at the cover of The Land We Knew the Best brings back memories of The Walkabouts' albums. The band led by Chris Eckman and Carla Torgerson, in the 80s, openly sang what Seattle secretly fantasized. Signed to Sub Pop in the 90s, The Walkabouts allowed the label's owners to express their love for Americana. The Walkabouts stopped in the early 2010s, and Chris Eckman, like a good Kerouac reader, continued his journey. Now based in Slovenia, he releases albums recorded with Alastair McNeill. This fifth album surpasses the previous ones. For the first time, Eckman deliberately gets lost in the Slovenian mountains and embraces his American heritage. Recorded live to forgo a certain perfection, the songs on The Land We Knew the Best take us down the same path as an album by Leonard Cohen or Neil Young (without his Crazy Horse). Introspective and dark, this album aims to be a rebirth. It will probably be a discovery for many, and a confirmation for others of all the good we've thought of this guy for three decades.
